Welcome to the Toll House!
For discerning guests aged 50 plus
An attractive riverside Grade 2 listed 18th century former toll-keeper's residence with a wealth of internal beams and character. We are conveniently situated on the B1383 ( Old A11), in the historic village of Newport, North Essex, close to the border with Cambridgeshire. Next door is a 15th century Grammar School set in beautiful grounds with 'Wicken Water' separating the two properties. Visitors are welcome to relax in the Toll House riverside garden and patios.
All bedrooms have en suite facilities and have been refurbished to the highest standard with exposed timbered walls and vaulted ceilings. Each is fully equipped with TV and video, radio alarm clock, hairdryer, iron, and tea/coffee making facilities. They also have the added benefit of ceiling fans for your comfort.
Newport Village has it's own railway station for direct access to London (Liverpool Street), Cambridge and Peterborough. There are two excellent Pubs, Supermarket (reasonably priced wine and video rental), Indian Restaurant, Antique Shop and Post Office, all in easy walking distance.

There are lovely countryside walks from the house, while the ancient market town of Saffron Walden with it's eighteen hole golf course and leisure centre with Olympic size swimming pool, is less than three miles away. Audley End House and Quendon Hall (Parklands) are within two miles.
We are fifteen minutes by car from the The Imperial War Museum, Duxford, M11 and Stansted Airport, to and from which transport can be arranged.
